Axwell notably asked the crowd to step into the club during the set’s halfway point to cede back-to-back IDs that were surprisingly uncharacteristic of anything the trio had been known for prior, but were still absolutely electric nonetheless, especially the “Don’t Call It A Comeback” ID. The Swedes didn’t walk into Bayfront Park empty handed. Despite the numerous hints, allusions, and even the three white dots that flashed on the mainstage 48 hours earlier, the understanding that Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello would stand side-by-side on the same stage they left behind five years prior didn’t genuinely set in until those names were read back in that same order, followed by an iconic “and you know that we are the Swedish House Mafia,” as everyone echoed each syllable of “Miami 2 Ibiza” in real-time.
But when Steve Angello re-followed his Swedish counterparts on Instagram just two days after Ultra emblazoned a suggestive headline, “expect the unexpected,” across its December 2017 phase one reveal, the festival gave credence to the theory that Swedish House Mafia could actually be getting back together at Bayfront Park in March.
The Swedish House Mafia rumor mill never took a breather-which was in no secret fueled by Dancing Astronaut-in the wake of the One Last Tour grand finale. There is still no information if the gig was a one-shot show or something else is planned but we are blessed to have seen such a historical moment for the entire music scene.Let’s just preface this by saying that whatever has happened (or hasn’t happened) with Swedish House Mafia following Ultra 2018 is being considered completely irrelevant for the purposes of this article. Swedish House Mafia split up March 24th, 2013 and, after 5 years and 1 day, they were back again delivering what, we are sure, will remain a historical moment for the dance industry as the one last show was. The three guys have closed one of the best editions so with a mega three tracks mashup between “One”, original and Garmiani Remix and Dream Bigger performing one of the best DJ-set of the last 5 years. Including all their products as a Trio, Swedish House Mafia has played also four new IDs ( according to 1001tracklists), one of that seems a remix of “We Come, We Rave, We Love” and one is a remix of Antidote.
All the way from Sweden, the three most famous guys in the industry came back together to celebrate this #ULTRA20. Hints, speculations, and news were too unceasing to be a mega troll and so it was not. Swedish House Mafia joined the mainstage of Ultra Music Festival Miami 20th edition as the special mysterious guest making the reunion come true!ġ0 pm, Bayfront Park, Miami, Ultra Music Festival 2018, the unexpected (not so much) has happened: Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello have joined together #ULTRA20 as Swedish House Mafia.
